Ridgecrest by Julian H. Scaff

I took all of these photos around the California town of Ridgecrest with a Canon RebelX camera and Ilford 100 speed black-and-white film. The black-and-white prints were scanned and modified in Photoshop using duplicate layers with paint effects layered on top of the original photograph. The effect is to preserve the photographic quality of the images while layering on some texture that reflects the rugged landscape. Ridgecrest is an area punctuated by it's starkly beautiful desert landscapes, as well as vast apocolyptic junkyards and sentinal-like communication towers.
